La Costa de Papito is located 4 hours driving time from San Jose at Playa Cocles one and a half kilometers (1 mile) southeast of Puerto Viejo town. We are 5 minutes by car outside of town on the beach road, 10 minutes by bicycle and 25 minutes walking. Find us on the Puerto Viejo Satellite map.

Interestingly, while it rains everywhere else in Costa Rica during
September and October, on the south Caribbean coast we have only
sunny weather! Apparently the hurricanes passing deep in the
Caribbean suck out the moisture here on the coast and circle it back
as rain in the Central Valley and the Pacific coast. |

the waves are delicious. In May, September and October the ocean
flattens out into a smooth transparent blue ideal for snorkeling,
fishing and carefree floating.

For $35 per person (from San Jose), Interbus offers a scheduled shared ride door to door Van shuttle with A/C operating between San Jose and several other points to Puerto Viejo. They will pick you up at your hotel and bring you to Papito. Click the button below to book this option.

For approximately $160 from San Jose, we can book a van with your own driver to bring you directly here. There's plenty of room for you and your bags (and even pets!) as they use 10 passenger vans (larger vehicles for groups of up to 20 or 50 are available also). This is a great option if you want to be met directly off your flight at the airport and come straight to Papito's. They also can bring you from any other location in the country. Another popular option to get to/from La Costa de Papito is to take a rafting trip. The rafting company will pick you up at your hotel in your choice of San Jose, Puerto Viejo or Arenal and drop you off at the end of the day in whichever place you like. It's like getting your transport for free! Your luggage is all securely stored while you're enjoying one of the best and most exciting ways to experience Costa Rica's natural wonders.
